For the third consecutive year, the Rockford Park District’s PGA Junior League All Stars golf team has advanced to regional competition to play West Dundee’s Randall Oaks All Stars.
The Rockford team will host the match Sunday, August 20, 2017, at Aldeen Golf Club, 1902 Reid Farm Rd., Rockford, IL. The first group will begin play at 4:00 p.m., and the second group will begin at 4:30 p.m., each playing nine holes. Ending times are expected to be 6:30-7:00 p.m. The winning team will continue to the final four of the regional bracket.
The public is invited to show their support of the Rockford All Stars by attending the August 20 finals. (Carts will not be available to spectators, so those attending will need to walk to follow course play.)
The Rockford All Stars defeated the Byron All Stars on August 13, 2017, 10 1/2 to 1 1/2 to advance. Rockford has teams from three country clubs participating, and Rockford Park District’s Aldeen Golf Club has fielded teams the last three years.
As a result of the added support of the Rockford team’s volunteer coaches and mentors as well as the families of the 48 players, there have been nights that the Rockford league has had 100-200 people involved in the program, or watching.
The PGA Junior League is in its fourth year nationally, and has grown from 3,000 juniors four years ago to more than 30,000 this year. Rockford Park District hosts PGA Junior League teams of players ages 8-13 of all abilities, providing youth a fun, social and inclusive opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of golf from PGA Professionals and Apprentices. All team members get the chance to play in the league, as well as to play various area courses and country clubs at no additional charge.
