The annual District golf tournaments are the highlights of the season for many golfers.

Rockford Junior Classic Tournament Series

This series of nine tournaments is a combined effort of the Rockford Park District, country clubs, and the Forest Preserves of Winnebago County. Points will be awarded for each tournament: 20 points for first place, down to two points for 10th place. In the case of a tie, the points will be split. Ribbons will be awarded to the top finishers in each class for each tournament. The season champions will be the players who score the most points in seven of the nine tournaments. If you play in seven or more tournaments, your seven best finishes will be counted. If you play in all nine tournaments, your seven best finishes will be counted. If a tournament is rained out, the best six of eight finishes will count.

Competition in age groups will be determined by participant’s age as of June 12, 2017.
Melvin Ballard Memorial Golf Tournament
- June 17: Ingersoll Golf Course
- June 18: Sandy Hollow Golf Course
This is a two-day open tournament. Saturday is played at Ingersoll Memorial Golf Course and, Sunday is played at Sandy Hollow Golf Course. Proceeds benefit the Melvin Ballard Scholarship Program.
Drive, Chip, and Putt
- July 13: Aldeen Golf Club
The Drive, Chip and Putt Championship is a free nationwide junior golf development competition aimed at growing the game by focusing on the three fundamental skills employed in golf.
By tapping the creative and competitive spirit of girls and boys ages 7-15, the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship provides aspiring junior golfers an opportunity to play with their peers in qualifiers around the country. Participants who advance through local, sub-regional and regional qualifying in each age/gender category earn a place in the National Finals, which is conducted at Augusta National Golf Club the Sunday before the Masters Tournament and is broadcast live by Golf Channel.
Tiger Cub Invitational
- July 15: Alpine Hills Adventure Park
Open to all youth golfers ages 5-12, and their adult amateur golf partner (age 18+). Golfers should sign up for the division based on their age as of July 15, 2017. This will be an adult/child alternate shot event played on the Alpine Hills Golf Course. Putting and chipping contests will be held during the round. Tee times will start at 11:00 am; your tee time will available online at golfrockford.org after 3:00 pm on July 10, 2017. FUN, FOOD, AND PRIZES–everyone is a winner! Lunch will be served after your round is completed. No tee entries will be taken; you must pre-register.
NOTE: Must register one adult and one child for a total of $30/team
- July 16: Aldeen Golf Club
Open to all male amateur golfers 18 years of age and older with a verified U.S.G.A. index of 10.7 or less. A Senior Division is available for golfers age 50 and over. A Super Senior Division is available to golfers age 60 and older. All ages are as of July 15, 2017. Tournament field will be limited to the first 120 entries.
This 36-hole event will be played at scratch over two consecutive days. The Rules of Golf of the United States Golf Association and where applicable, local rules on the Aldeen Golf Club, Notice to Competitors sheet will apply. The committee reserves the right to modify the competition where necessary. Use of caddies is strongly encouraged, but not required. Carts will be permitted only for verifiable medical conditions or disabilities. Proper golf attire is required at all times for contestants, caddies, and spectators. The use of metal spikes is prohibited. Players are required to check in at least 15 minutes prior to their tee time. Check-in will be required both days, and late arrival will result in application of Rule 6-3, disqualification.
Winners will be awarded trophies and gift certificates from the Aldeen Golf Shop. The Aldeen Cup champion’s name will also be engraved on the Norris A. Aldeen trophy on display at Aldeen Golf Club. Greater Rockford Women’s Classic

To play in this tournament, you must be a taxpayer in Winnebago, Ogle, Stephenson, or Boone counties (if a full-time student under age 25, your parent/guardian must be a taxpayer in one of the above counties), or a member of the Rockford Women’s Golf Association.
All participants will be required to wear golf shoes with soft spikes, spikeless golf shoes, or flat-soled tennis shoes for the entire competition. NO METAL SPIKES. Tournament rules include a dress code. Appropriate golf attire must be worn at all times on the golf course and practice tees. Jeans, cutoffs, short shorts, tennis shorts/skirts, and halter/tank tops are not considered appropriate attire. Tee times for the first day of play will be listed in the Rockford Register Star the weekend before the
tournament. Tee times for match play rounds may be e-mailed upon request.
- ONLY cash, check, or charge card accepted for payment; entry fee includes greens fee.
- This tournament is operated by the Rockford Women’s Golf Association and Rockford Park District.
- Golf gift certificates or other Rockford Park District non-cash forms of payment are not accepted. Gift cards are accepted.

Greater Rockford Men’s Classic

Open to all male amateur golfers 16 years of age and older, and also to golfers who placed in the top four (18-Hole category) in the 2017 Stateline Boys Championship, regardless of age. Tournament field will be limited to the first 112 entries.
The tournament format will be 72 holes of stroke play, to be played on consecutive weekends as described in Schedule of Play. Number of holes played may be reduced due to weather conditions. At the completion of the first weekend, the field will be cut from 112 to the low 78 golfers and ties. Motorized cars will be allowed on a first come, first served basis.
Contestants will be paired on the basis of average scores as given on the registration. Championship Flight contestants may receive new pairings for the final round. THERE WILL BE NO PREFERRED PAIRINGS OR TEE TIMES.
After the completion of the first weekend, contestants will be placed in flights according to their first weekend total. There will be three flights – Championship, “A” Flight, and “B” Flight. In addition to the flights, contestants ages 55 and older making the cut will also be eligible for the “Masters” division. The committee reserves the right to modify tournament format. U.S.G.A. rules apply. Additional rules will be mailed with pairing list. Caddies will be allowed. Players and caddies are required to wear shirts and acceptable footwear at all times.
Boys & Girls Classic
- August 3-4: Ingersoll Golf Course
This year, the Greater Rockford Boys Classic and the Greater Rockford Girls Classic will be held on the same two days, and at the same course. The format for both events will remain the same.
Golfers should sign up for the division based on their age as of August 3, 2017. There will be no preferred pairings or tee times. USGA rules apply.
This tournament will be divided by age as shown below. When choosing the appropriate age group, please use the age the participant will be on August 3, 2017.
- 4 HOLES: ages 5-7, 8-10, and 11-18
- 9 HOLES (front 9): ages 8-10, 11-12, and 13-14
- 18 HOLES: ages 13-14, 15-16, and 17-18
Any girl wishing to compete for the overall title should choose to play 18 holes. Her score will also count for her appropriate age group. There will be no preferred pairings or tee times. Once the pairings have been posted, they cannot be changed. Each participant must have their own clubs. With your help, we hope to make this an enjoyable day, and golf a lifetime sport for your child! Participants must be 18 or under as of August 3, 2017, and a resident of Winnebago or Boone county, or hold a current RPD golf membership.
Greater Rockford Mixed Doubles
- August 12: Sinnissippi Golf Course – Raindate: August 19
Open to all amateur golfers, ages 16 and older. The tournament will be a 9-hole Chapman system of alternate shots. Teams will consist of one female and one male golfer. Both will tee off. The team will alternate the second shot; the team must choose the ball they will play until the ball is holed out. Entry is limited to the first 90 teams. No guarantees for preferred tee times or pairings.
Greater Rockford Senior Classic
- August 21-22: Ingersoll Golf Course
Open to all amateur golfers ages 60 and older who are residents of Winnebago, Boone, Stephenson, Ogle, or Rock counties, or holders of a current RPD golf membership. The tournament will be limited to the first 120 18-hole division entries, with no exceptions.
The tournament will be divided into a men’s and women’s 18-hole event (two 9-hole rounds) and a 36-hole event (two 18-hole rounds). Divisions will be flighted after the first round. Contestants will be paired on the basis of average score as provided on the entry form. Contestants may request pairings, but there are no guarantees for preferred pairings or tee times. Divisions must have four or more golfers, or the division will be cancelled (golfers may opt to play in another division).
AWARDS BANQUET: Wednesday, August 23, at 6:30 pm. Information will be sent with the pairings.
$30/guest for each additional guest to the banquet.
PRIZES: A championship trophy will be awarded to the overall winner of the 36-hole division.
Each division winner and runner-up will receive a trophy. The top finishers in each division will receive
gift certificates. Additional information on the awards dinner will be sent with the pairings.
NOTES: Entrants who intend to use a cart must register for one when registering for the tournament.
